Deer in trouble/where is the money

Who's job is it to help the wild life?... MNR... What are we paying for if not to help sustain the deer population?... Cut backs everywhere but tags and licenses keep goin up!...government blow budgets all the time, this is a worth while cause... Sorry for the rant.... I think our whitetails are worth spending cash on.. I will donate cash to a bale... No problem...

I wonder sometimes if people really consider how much money the MNR would need, in order to do a half way decent job for all the things people want. That then would require massive hikes to our cards/tags etc.

Yeah, the province has been cutting the budget for years, but our contribution is peanuts really. The amount we chip in doesn't come close to the MNRs total expenses and yet people "gripe" every time a fee goes up a little.

This issue, in some small ways, is not unlike Save the Atlantics. Difference being, StA is mostly funded by other sources, kind of paying for itself

White tails (and turkey) are native and evolute to survive (regular)winter like the one we are having. The sick and weak will dye and the strong survive, it's just natural selection. If there are less deer, that only mean less tags for us so need for wining.....

Feeding the DEER is the farthest from an expense the MNR should be funding:

roughly, if Memory serves,...the MNR budget is around $700 million and our tag/licence revenues amounts to about $45 million.

Following the 2012 Ontario budget, MNR staff were told their ministry’s budget was being cut by $70 million over three years, or a 10 per cent cut. MNR cut $10 million last year from the closure of 10 provincial parks, cuts to the Bear Wise program, the elimination of the Ontario Ranger Program and other program changes. (Three parks were subsequently re-opened, but the operating dollars and staffing fell to municipalities to pick up the costs). More than 100 seasonal employees and 22 full-time employees lost their jobs as a result of these cuts. The 2013 Ontario budget restored $40 million to the ministry.

I am not saying the MNR should pay for it I was aware their was a donated fund for it that the mnr had, but apparently the ofah is holder of the fund and from what there website says people may have been donating to it, if so then i have asked how people can access the funds .

Maybe its time the MNR do something about that . from what i have been hearing it cost big dollars to fish in quebec on rivers that hold salmon and trout and out west is even more, thousands of fishermen come from quebec to ontario and fish our waters maybe its about time we charge accordingly instead of them getting a "free ride "

unless I'm mistaken....Quebecer's (non-resident) pay $82 for a sports fishing licence here...(vice our $28)

yes but to access some of the "good rivers is big dollars to access them .. i am still working on the facts.. but from guys i have been talking to its 500 bucks for 2 fish ... crazy in my opinion . And from a email i have gotten from chris Robinson from the ofah i have heard that a town has asked about "access to fishing" fee on there land so as to recoup some of the cost of the mess and stuff they provide for the fishermen, i guess some other communities have done the same thing

I have no idea what your talking about...outfitters have controlled access to some lakes etc (whole other issue), so yes you have to pay them...

Lots of small towns are asking for 'donations' to use the public docks to help offset the cost of maintenance and clean up...nothing wrong with that. The launch I use on the Rideau River Locks (federal land) has a $6 fee...go figure, but I'm happy to pay it, goes to upkeep.
