volunteers forum?
I was wondering what folks thought about adding a forum where organizations who would like some extra manpower for a project can post their needs and share pertinent info. My thinking is that for example, I may not belong to Ducks Unlimited or the Ruffed Grouse Society or my local stewardship council but a nearby chapter or council may have a work bee scheduled on a Saturday, and it may be helpful to them to have extra hands. I belong to a number of different organizations, some related to outdoor activities, some not, so I don't see myself joining more simply to be on a contact list. But I would like to pitch in time to time when my schedule allows, and maybe round up a few friends to come along. I suspect that there are other OOD forum members who are the same, and I don't imagine too many conservation groups would mind some free labour.

There's already an "events & meetings" section, I think this would fall under that.

I think smallgamer's idea to make this separate from other events makes sense.
Not only does it create a way for organizations to get volunteers but it also publicizes what they're doing and may help them pick up the odd new member. No downside.

I considered that. My thought though is to have a forum exclusively for conservation project volunteer recruitment, so that people inclined to volunteer can go directly to it, and conservation groups can post directly on it. "Events and Meetings" covers a very wide spectrum of activities, yet looking at the posts in that section, which goes back almost a year and a half, I see none announcing a conservation project work bee. I think a forum specific to conservation volunteerism would encourage posts of the type I describe.

I see what you're saying, the idea behind the meetings & events (and it is moderated, that's why you don't see much in there, mods have to approve the post first) was to weed out people trying to sneak in ads / services / etc

I think its a great idea, sign me up. I know there are times when I have nothing to do and this can be a good option for me and my son.
