I apologize for not properly reading your post. Can’t dispute what you originally wanted to convey.
The only comment I can make is the Savage design is excellent but the manufacturing assembly was not the best probably to keep cost down. Make some corrections to the manufacturing end and you’ve got one heck of a shooter and range that exceeds BP capabilities. I’m not in any way degrading BP muzzle loaders for they serve their designed purpose but the smokeless muzzle loader extends that purpose even further.

I agree any contact with the barrel can make a difference to an extent even just resting your free hand on it that I’ve seen some shooters do.
