If you get the bird within 25-30 yards the pattern is almost irrelevant if your using a turkey choke with turkey loads. Patterning is more important for the 35ish + yard shots

This will be my first turkey hunt coming up so I'm just wanting to have the best results possible. I think I'm just going to use my factory full choke that the Supernova came with and try and get the bird in close. I've read that some people use the IC choke with turkey loads...is that safe/doable?

Use as tight as possible for factory chokes. With a full you are good to 25 yards easy

pellets in the head and neck are lethal hits, pellets in the body are not IC choke really has no place in the turkey woods. Pattern your gun get to know where your gun shoots put that point on the birds neck...go put a tag on it.

This has been my experience as well. Having taken at least a half dozen with archery I can attest that they do come easily to 20 yards or less hence no need for long range shotgun sniping. As a matter of fact a more open choke is a benefit at shorter ranges. Less chance of a miss.

I hanen't been lucky enough to take one under 50 Yards yet, but I am sure glad i did buy a turkey choke that can get the job done at that distance. I shoot at target at 50 yards for practice before i make the 6 hour trip down to hunt. I i can only take 2 days off work in the spring, so i take the longer shots. I wouldn't recommend these shots for someone inexperienced.

Picked up a Redhead Blackout turkey choke (made by Carlson's) for my M2 and it patterns fantastic out to 46 yds so far. It's not as tight as some but will definately get the job done. It patterns everything well lead, cp lead and heavy shot and won't break the bank.
Before switching to xbow years ago all I used was an old Winchester single shot with the Federal turkey loads (3" #4) and never lost a bird. Your Nova's factory choke will do the job just fine and be far more forgiving at closer ranges.
