I have a hi-tek battery operated vest for my dog. It came with booties, hat, goggles and matching scarf. It runs on 36 "D" size batteries. MAKE SURE you follow the 48 page set-up procedure to a tee. There are a lot of wires and you don't want to do what I did and connect the vest wires to the goggles!!!
You can also order the infra-red/solar panel version (which I have) but it seems a bit overwhelming for anything smaller than a show-bred Great Dane.
Sometimes, if the weather is wettish or even damp or it was dampish within 1 week, the wiring shorts out and you will see little puffs of smoke emanating from your wrist - where the remote/metal leash assembly clips on. The pain goes away after a day or two....but for some reason when this happens, I can't get the microwave to work at home here for days. ???
It also comes with a neato remote. The remote is very user friendly. It has an on-off timer (clock is optional), a thermostatic heat sensor that compliments the dog's ambient temperature (the secret is to shave your dog's hair where the 7 sensors connect. The one connector....well, you don't need to shave the dog for where it connects). AND, it beeps to let the dog walker know if another "hot" dog is coming along too! Just be careful because if the other dog has this same unit operating on the same frequency, your dog will walk funky-like. More importantly, those low level shocks the walker receives are slightly enhanced. When I regained consciousness, there was a carbon deposit on my palm where the remote/leash once was. It's OK though. The other guy was still unconscious when the ambulance came, so I feel pretty lucky. The good news is that, when I called them collect, they said their R&D has almost got a second frequency operating.
This unit only malfunctions every once-and-a-while, but the good news is they offer a 1 time, time-limited warrantee, if you pay cash up front. They will replace your dog, if you meet certain criteria and it's within 4 hours of purchase, with a receipt.
You guys should get one of these units! Hey....I've got a very slightly used one here for a steal! Call me, k? (No warrantee with my unit anymore, sorry. I already got the new dog.)
Some people get all weird and stuff when there's a prolonged winter but not me. I LOVE this s_ _ t!

Ugo, I'd take you up on that offer but it's 75F here and my boys just came out of the water....not sure it would be water proof.

You could try it and tell me????
Good for you Mr. K. I just got back from some islands in the West Indies too - sans canines though. It's my time to holiday with my wife. I'm looking forward to this white stuff melting as I have a very busy spring/summer/fall waiting for me.....thank God. (I'm sure lots of folk feel this way on this forum!)
All the best to you in the upcoming season, Sir. As you will have discovered some time ago, you only get out what you put in.

Mr. Ugo you have a wry sense of humour. I may just get one of these vests for myself as I could use some warming up and an attitude adjustment right now.

Actually, there was no sarcasm intended. It was just for levity. Seems like there are more vociferous responses on most any subject of late.
I hope some folk got a smile...that's all.
