I can't decide between #1 of which I'm most proud of, but that is my list of big fish per species that I've got over my life so far. Those are the marks that I personally aim to beat everytime I hit the water, and I've had a hell of a time enjoying every minute doing so. It's a sickness, you all get it.

Can't remember catching any giant fresh water fish. But I remember as a young child out ocean fishing off PEI, catching a Cod that weighed over 60 pounds. My Dad went Tuna fishing back in early 1980's and caught with a crew of friends a Tuna the weighed over 1000 pounds, they initially hooked a big one but the line snapped after towing the boat backwards for a few minutes.
My Grandfather once hooked a Halibut in a bay that him and I fished that was bigger the his 12 foot tin (which I now have) he had to cut the line.
Sadly Giant Greenland Halibut, huge Cod and giant Tuna no longer exist. Halibut are rare over a few pounds Cod also only grow a few pounds and the giant tuna today is at best half the weight.
Mackeral use to swim in giant schools in Aug and weighed upward of 5 pounds those ones you seee in the market today is what we use to throw back as being to small. Same with the Cod. That Pollock u see sold in the fish section we didn't consider that even good eating.
