I think it's a scam. I have asked some pretty easy questions and the guy has told me to move on. Examples of questions asked.

Why he is getting rid of him? Because he is to old to hunt.
Who the breeder was? Breeder info not handy. Breeder trained him, don't remember their name, somewhere on papers.
What kind of birds does he hunt? Partridge.
What is his name? No answer
Do you know his Registered name? no Answer - but replied "If you are interested, you can come and meet him. Adminsitrative issues can be cleared if you like the dog.

I replied I would just like some background on him before I drive to Toronto to see him. I own a brit and know everything there is about my boy such as registered name, who his breeder was and who trained him I do not think these are administrative questions. Has he had any vet issues?

Final reply was "Maybe you should move on."

A buddy was interested so I said I would ask some questions just from have some knowledge of the breed.

Beware of this AD. Kinda weird.

Hey kjay, I don't know anything about this dog or the current owner but he might just feel that at $350 a seriously interested buyer would want to make a move to see the dog and go from there. I think your questions are very reasonable for someone looking to spend full pop on a pup or young dog but I'm just trying to understand his answers. To some extent, you could say he did the right thing in that you aren't really a buyer. I know your friend might be, but the dog owner may have intuitively sensed that you were just fishing and may have felt your questions were an inconvenience....or whatever? I would have known the answers to your questions off the top of my head BUT he might be protecting something or someone. ???

Yah I use to get those time waster phone calls or emails from people looking for a dog and not show up. I would then ask for a phone number and if they didn't give me one I knew they were not serious .

I think your questions were very reasonable. Why he dismissed you is anyone's guess. Probably he didn't have any answers.

I was willing to call the guy, just a little put off when he couldn't give me anything to go on. I was just at work, and unable to talk on the phone about dogs at the time. Just the way the conversation went it made me feel like it was one of the many scams on kijiji, usually they are for trucks or cars that are priced way to good to be true.

It seems a bit odd. In his ad he claims the dog is a good hunter and then he told it was too old to hunt? Isnt this dog only 4? Guess I should be shopping fir a new one as mine will be 4 this summer. Something stinks here.

Maybe the hunter is too old . I don't like tire kickers either and get a feeling the owner is more interested in a good home . He likely thought Kjay may have just been interested in flipping the dog for profit . The ad also states he doesn't want e-mail exchanges for info beyond someone just contacting him with their phone number . I don't blame the owner for that either , I'm not writing out pedigrees etc via e-mail to every tire kicker who e-mails . Give him your phone number and talk directly to him . That's what the ad says .

No we texted each other. i was just asking questions while I could through text. I have had scammers for trucks when I was looking who also used free numbers through their iPhones or iPads. This instance seemed the same.

The world is full of scams. I used to be someone who gave everyone the benefit of the doubt initially . Not any more.

PS One of the kids here just bought something from E bay using Pay Pal. The guy got his money and is now hedging on sending the product. E bay is going to boot him , but that doesn't solve the kid's problem. ( Sorry to go off topic but I am ticked.)

You could be right Kjay but I'm made of a different cloth . I'm aware of scammers but my approach would be different in this case too . That's all . and maybe his ad has even been changed since you saw it . I don't know . I wouldn't buy a dog off Kijii or the like anyways . Not sight unseen EVER . I trust no one unless I know them with cash . Even on here , the ones with a solid rep established can be researched because they have nothing to hide , but no cash would ever be forthcoming sight unseen .

Hypothetically speaking . I would not buy or consider this dog and have him shipped, sight unseen . I could also write you a phony pedigree online/text if I was out to scam somebody .

Hypothetically speaking . I would also not home a dog with you either , sight unseen Kjay . The ad specifically states what the owner wants to see before he re-homes the dog ,lad . That in itself should mean something . He seems concerned in where the dog goes and it's not about cash .
