What type of scat?
These droppings were everywhere around a cluster of mature hemlocks. I want to say deer but the weird thing is they look more tubular. Plus I' ive always known deer to crap in piles. This stuff is kind of spread out. Also, i even found some in the crotch of the tree too...To me that indicates it was something from up IN the tree. Doesnt look like coon to me.
Skunk? Possum?

I have almost sat in piles of this stuff at the base of trees when Turkey hunting. Up close and personal!

There would also be lots of yellow snow. if there was a porky in the tree. If you are downwind you can smell them. old 243
