Pointer training
I have an opportunity to partake in a training seminar with Rick Smith of Huntsmith INC. An American bird dog trainer this summer.
I was wondering if any other members have trained with him before or have had experiences with him or his dogs?
I am currently looking for a trainer to help me “finish” my dog. I'm having issues when hunting with other dogs. I need to train my dog to “honor” other points/retrieves as well as hold point with other dogs working around her or in-between her and the bird. She likes to jump the bird if another dog gets too close. I believe it’s called the jealously factor lol
If there are dog trainers reading this post I am all open ears.
Thank you

Pointer training
I have been to two Huntsmith seminars the Foundation and intermediate and highly recommend them. When you get the opportunity to get hands on instruction and training from a world class trainer and Bird dog hall of fame member you don't pass it up.

I have been through the whole program and I know Rick well. I am priviledged to be part of a small group of pro and amateur trainers that are mentored by Rick. It is well worth your time and money to go take part in the seminar.

What level of seminar should a 3.5yr old dog that is steady to shot be entered in? My dog will break when the bird drops and while he retrieves everything he doesn't present to to hand.

Both happens. You take your dog and half the time is working with your dog.

You work with your own dogs at the seminar and everyone starts at the foundation level. The foundation level a lot about general dog behaviour and building a foundation for sound training. No matter what stage your dog is at in its training you will come away from the seminar with a better understanding of your dog and the means to build a better relationship with your dog.
These seminars are for all types of bird dogs, pointers, flushers and retrievers working upland game.

No matter what the age of your dog, you need the foundation seminar to understand his principles of training etc. After many years of gun dog experience, I took the Foundation seminar and learned PLENTY!.
