That is a good deed indeed recovering and caring for the dog.
As a hound hunter myself, I can relate to the owner's concern.
I know of sleepless nights and driving around at 2:00am to try and recover a hound.

But the question is, what if, the owner did have ID on the dog but someone took the ID collar off?
There are some shady characters out there.
I would make sure you have a secret question pertaining the pooch to whoever comes forward and claim it.

    Good news for this pup:

"Looks like Sparky has a new home. Jay has taken great care of him since being rescued and the ad on Kijiji got a reply a few days ago. The couple from Kingston came to see him last night and took him home with them. He will spend the rest of his days as a house pet in a warm home......"

"Thank you for the comments guys much appreciated, I don’t know why but the night I read Dave’s post about him I knew I could not leave him there, had to go get him. I do not hunt but am part of two camps and both have dogs. Our camp in Folger the dogs have collars with name tags and contact info if found, simple solution. Members who do hunt and use dogs I hope read this and understand how much effort it has taken to get the dog bring him back to health and find a home. If a dog is too old shoot it at the camp or bring it back for adoption or have the dog put down. In the case of this dog I think he had run away and everyone left figuring him for dead. I contacted our camp at Scottamata lake and they have a network to contact camp owners if one lost. This camp could have easily approached a local or another camp and said they have one lost, or have a local check in on the camp for a week or two to see if he had returned. With a bit of research this is a common occurrence after the hunt and it would be good if this could change".

"Enough time on the soap box, received a msg tonight form his new home to say that he has settled in, the kids love him and he is doing well. The difference from the dog I brought home to the one that left last night was amazing and I knew this person was the right one when he jump up on her a gave her a lick, he has never have done that with a new person in the yard. From a sleeping bag of bones with a big head full of fleas and ticks and don’t go near my food bowl or I’ll bite ya, to a dog with lots of colour and personality in four months, hunting dogs can be changed."

Now that is a great ending.

I have found the owner of this dog and was in contact with him by phone. He would really like this dog back. He and his family made numerous trips back to his camp after deer season trying to locate this dog. The dog is over 10 yrs old. I do not believe he uses a computer. I tried to send a pm to JBird but it came back as not found. Could someone plse pm me that knows JBIRD or knows where the dog is now. With Thks Gary

I posted a link to this thread and asked JBird to get a hold of you Gary. Other than that I believe you need to register to the other board before you can contact him by PM.

Gary, I know JBird has seen my post since he has visited the site since I made the post. I don't know him personally.

I can also understand his side if he doesn't want to contact you. After all is said and done he rescued and housed that pooch since late last year, and finally found the dog a new home.

I did however give him your e-mail address and copied your last post over there.

    Best of luck.

Well lets hope it doesn't get ugly which it can . That's a real tough call for both parties concerned . Thanks for keeping us and the parties concerned informed Rick . Interesting situation that I'm sure has happened many times .
