I stole this from Welsh in his post on woodcock in the upland forum, I think his comments, though in relation to upland hunting, mirror my own concerns regarding the state of waterfowling and commercialization of it.
and the last thing I'd want to see is upland hunting going down the same path as fly fishing, or as some of the other corners of the hunting world that have been taken over by the new highly commercialized, ego-driven, Go-Pro-powered outdoor media culture. There are entirely too many people in that business today trying to become the stars of their own show, for whom becoming a recognized expert and looking cool is more important than imparting real information. And I'd rather not see my favorite bird cover taken over by fist-pumping goofs in the latest gear....

While I guess I'm guilty of putting out videos too, I hate the idea of waterfowling "celebrity". When I see young guys idolizing people who shoot a lot of birds on TV, it makes me cringe. Think of how many people looked up to Foiles.
I do have respect for some of the bigger names, but because they put in a lot of work to get their birds, take care to preserve the heritage and are active in conservation. Not b/c they kill birds.

I think you can apply that to just about everything now. Used to be called Kodak Courage. Slightly different angle on it these days but it seems everyone is posting their Go Pro glory shot footage to Youtube be it skiing, mountain biking, hunting or just about everything else. While it's great to share the pics with everyone else and nice to have the memento it should be about the activity first and the footage second.

It's like a Nickelback song..........lol
Hey hey I wanna be a duck star
Hey hey I wanna be a duck star
I wanna be great like Foiles without the legal hassles
Killin’ with my crew on my YouTube channel
Design a barrel sticker so I can eat my meals for free
I'm gonna dress my arse with the latest camo
SPAM every chance I can so I get free ammo
Forget Winchester EXPERTS it’s only Blindside for me
I'm gonna trade this life for fortune and fame
If a MOD bans me I’ll just change my name
'Cause we all just wanna be big duck stars
With a show on WILD TV, driving camo cars
Big egos come easy and the ducks come cheap
I wonder who’s on Canada in the Rough this week?
So I’ll scour the net for more eBAY bands
You know I’m world famous in my hometown man
Every waterfowl wannabe’s gonna wind up there
Rockin’ an Avery beanie and a Belding stare, and well
Hey hey I wanna be a duck star
Hey hey I wanna be a duck star
