the one I stopped at the other day was hit so hard there was nothing that could be scavenged it left about a 20' blood smear on the road

That's a good reminder for me to drive around in the morning or evening. Commuters going fast are more likely to hit one and then they want nothing to do with the dead animal.
Remember that if you take road-killed deer you still have to report it and be legal. Not worth getting charged with poaching, especially if you are a licenced hunter who should 'know better'.

I still have a bit of road kill Deer in the freezer. My buddy called me up one night and said " some citiot just hit a deer"
I asked how did he know it was a citiot?
He answered " because he just left 80 lbs of free meat on the side of the road"
We didn't lose much back leg was broken and a few ribs.
You can report it with the mnr online with a form you fill out and email.

There are lots of deer around here getting hit on roads because people are feeding right beside the main roads.
I had a call today from a lady down the road wanting me to come put 2 does down that had been hit. She tried to get ahold of the
MNR but there is no-one to talk to bout this kind of situation. I know that they say let nature take its course but when there is 2 deer with broken legs from being hit and yearlings hanging around in someones yard what are you supposed to do.
