great season!!
I was not even going to bother going out as my day was booked up with the kids and dance competitions. Lol. But I could not resist an opening day morning even if only a quick hunt. I was rewarded after a run of bad luck with a double to start off the season with my buddy TomGobble. Saturday was booked with to many last minute setting up for the wife's 40th bday surprise. Sunday was another quick hunt with no action probably due to a hang over and a nagging wife to come home early "its my birthday". So a quick hunt again with no reward this time. Monday was another team effort with Tom Gobble. Came close on another tom which got spooked at 6 yards, a few steps out past a tree and he would of been down, but some how I spooked it and he was gone like the road runner. An afternoon of fishing landed me a nice male rainbow which I offered to Tom. No time to clean fish, I was running late for a solo afternoon hunt so off I went to enjoy an evening sit. Set up in the blind for just before 5, could of been another double if Tom could of made it. Two jakes showed up around 6. I learned a lot about hunting these birds after a dry season last year which started the year before when I passed on my second bird, a jake, on my second hunt of the season-not wanting to end it so soon. Well it was a long drought after that which ended like it started. Early in the season, on my second bird, I did not want it to end so soon but I could not make the same mistake twice. Down went the bird putting an end to a short but fantastic season.

Congrats on your succesful season!
Man I've been out in the bush since 445 this morning. Its been windy as hell today and the rain hasn't helped either. First set up was a bust, turkeys flew down the wrong way from the roost. Second time I spooked 2 deer which chased off the tom, jake and 2 hens I was working on. And then a succession of turkeys moving fast and disappearing before I can head them off.
Came in to get dry clothes and a bite to eat right now and then head out for a couple more hours.

Its been a great season so far with my buddy Ihunt, we had a great opener and he had a nice finish to his season with the reward of a 17 pound jake. The only regret I have was that I wasn't there to enjoy it with him and to top it off we could of ended it with another double. But success isn't measured by if you get a bird or not but measured in the memories you gain with your friends and family and thats why we hunt. So congrats to Ihunt but jokes on you, I get to enjoy the rest of the season hunting, while you wish you were hunting LOL
