Nice to hear you heard some, where bouts are you, we are down the 632? I saw a grouse just outside the Eagle Lake Gun Club outside of Sundridge when I was there yesterday. Too many guns shots were going on to hear them when I was at the club.
Gun control:Criminals who ignore laws against rape, torture, kidnapping, theft, and murder, will obey a law that prohibits them from owning a firearm while disarming decent people from having access to firearms to deter criminals.

on the property I have permission to turkey hunt on, i was hearing this "drumming" almost everyday (from every direction) and had no clue what it was until I spooked one going In one afternoon. Very nice looking bird for sure and seems to be lots of them over where I am

I was out turkey hunting in Beeton and heard constant drumming. I went for a walk and spooked two of them on separate occasions. I have never gone for grouse on this property. I usually get them up near Temagami in the fall but I may try a little closer to home this winter.

Is temagami really the closest south that you have good odds of finding grouse without a dog?

Absolutely not. Draw a triangle on a map with the points being Mattawa, Sudbury, and Parry Sound. Take a walk on crown land inside that triangle.

I've heard a ton drumming any time I've been out in the bush - haven't seen any though, must be nesting.

I heard drumming all morning back on the 17th while I was out turkey hunting on a farm property in Grand Valley and again on the 19th.

All the hens are safely sitting on huge clutches, that will hatch to find lots of food and good weather, there will be no predators and they will all make it to fall to flush into woodland clearings in front of our well mannered dogs. Spring is for dreaming.
