It's funny that some people on here have no science to back their accusations up. Clearly the people that are against fishing for bedded Bass have never fished in New York, Michigan or Minnesota where you can fish for Bass in the spring and there fisheries are still better then ours. I obey our laws even though they haven't been updated since the 90's. Saying people in Bass Boats are targeting OOS Bass and not Pike is complete BS. Are you in there boat with them? most likey not. They have a nice boat..... now lets call them poachers, demonize and bash them from behind a keyboard.

The lakes I fish bonkers in the haliburtons/kawarthas have no pike and Muskie are still closed. Yes I've seen anglers targeting out of season bass for sure! If pike are present, it's another story...
I've also caught my fare share like everyone. In the big picture it won't hurt the bass as most don't do it and those that do release them anyways... But it ticks me off a bit, but it's close to worst violations of our fisheries... Lol
Who is going to release a PB out of season caught by accident without a quick shot? Not me... Lol

Seems a lot of people don't realize that when you pull the male (the hen is long gone) off the nest, then in many cases, the sunfish and perch move in and wipe out the whole brood in MINUTES! Not just a case of stressing the parent, or some young wandering off .....Bass are not the same as walleye, browns, lakers, musky, etc. The male will stay with and protect the young when they hatch. This is the only means that Mother Nature has given this species to survive.
Central Ontario is already the northern limit of the bass habitat. Things are a lot different down in the central states where you can catch them all year long.

Pat the Bass in The Northern States face the same conditions as ours. The Bass in Minnesota are even more north then us and they're still fine. Anyone who has ever fished for Bass during the Spring will tell you that we don't target the smaller males. Plus both males and females are on the bed. The females roam 3-6 ft away from their beds.

Not sure if you know this but there is a ton of bass up north so much so the season is open all year long. I'm not sure what you mean by "central ontario is the northern limit of bass habitat..." There is no problem with the season being open all, year long there the bass are a nuisance

Pat knows and I was at war over most of this before, before most including any of you were here . I battle with Werner lots . Basically he just asked folks to stay back from nests . Don't tell me us guys who fish tourneys don't know either after we have pulled one bass that any pike is a ways back . He got defensive and responded with the bass boat ,spinnerbait stuff . LOL You got fished . . His (werner ) point as I saw it ... Please think . pull one .. leave the spot .
Also some of you newbies . This battle happens every year seasonly . I have watched it almost 15 years and yes I still get into them . lol Werner just mentioned it .. Let it go .lol

With all due respect..... the law says you can't fish for a species during the closed season .....it does not say you must avoid catching them during the closed season. Quite a difference!!
for what it's worth.
-the MNR says, if your hooking up with OOS bass, you should move to another area.
-posting PICs. The admins (the law here) have made it clear in the past, that's a no-no.
is it "illegal" to take a pic?
My personal take on that, is. Yes. The possession (9/10ths) laws are pretty clear. At no time can we posses (have in hour hands) an OOS fish, or our limit +1. To me, the word "immediately", doesn't mean release it 3 minutes, 1 minute, 30 seconds, or 10 seconds later. It means by definition.
Without delay.
The MNR recently changed the regs so that those with live wells could cull fish. Or in their words "selectively" release. Prior to that change, you were breaking the law because you had 6 plus 1 in your possession, for how long?............................... About as long as it takes, to take a pic.
All that said and out of the way.
I like the fact the regs as written, are "unclear". It leaves a CO room to apply their discretion. There's the letter of the law.....and spirit of the law.
Should a CO witness someone catch an OOS fish...he can apply the spirit. If the same person then catches 4, 8, 10 more without moving to another area....he can apply the letter. Same goes for taking pics. The law as written, allows a CO to lay a charge (letter) or not (spirit), depending on the devil details ( what he or she is witnessing)
Too each his own

Jben you nailed it,,, but what in reality is an OOS bass picture since this board has posters from everywhere ? It's always been an issue any time of year here not for just bass . That's why it is not moderated anymore as it used to be, unless a battle starts .
I coulda started a storm posting trout pics ,, The thing is our season is from Jan !st to Sept 30 th with some lakes year round open . Rainbows are year round here as are whitefish ..iT'S THE LOCALE .. That's getting away from Werner's point but heah .I can understand where he is coming from .
