I used to have a Sportpal and I mounted a 55 lb. thrust elect. mtr on the bow using a sheet of aluminum,ran the controls back to where I was seated and it worked great....pulling your canoe is the way to go,NOT pushing it....wind doesn't affect where you're going,you just go there

Best idea I heard yet!

I use to love my 40 lb thrust minn-kota on the canoe, but if I put it to far forward on the canoe ( to a comfy position) it didn't turn well, so I would always mount it back behind me, to an uncomfortable position and it turned great but you had a soar side and back by the end of the day especially on a windy day.

I thought the same thing and it worked great in open water. Ran into a problem when I got tangled up in some brush though and had to walk to the front of the canoe to free the prop.....

Coming from a tournament fishing background. I always look for ways to keep my bait in the water then in the boat. My go to knot is the palomar knot, it’s easy, fast and so many different uses.
