    Default Air Rifle Recommendation

Can anyone recommend a good, inexpensive air rifle - below 500 fps - for pest control? Preferably 22 cal.

What kind of pests are you talking about? an airgun under 500FPS isn't good for much.
"Camo" is perfectly acceptable as a favorite colour.

Not sure where you live, but you may want to check if you can legally shoot them?

In Ontario Red Squirrels are considered a fur bearing mammal i.e. you need a trapping licence to take them. Unlike Gray squirrels they cannot be hunted under the auspices of your small game licence.

This is my pellet gun for pest control

It's accurate and very effective, but it's more expensive and has twice the velocity of what you're looking for.

Since this was posted ~6 months ago already I imagine that my advice is too late by now . --- Why below 500 fps ? Are the gun-laws in Ohio as moronic as ours here in Ontario ? --- If you prefer ''old-fashioned'' solidity instead of glitzy plastic , go with the Crosman 397 (0.177) or the 392 (22 cal.) . --- These are ''pump-up-guns'' . Accurate and reliable ; your grand-children could still enjoy them . --- Personally I favor the 397 (0.177) . High-performance at 8 pumps (8.3 grain wadcutter at ~800 fps.) or anything in between (target-shooting etc.) . Generally , I limit my shots to 35 yards max and have taken quite a few species with it . --- Head- or neck-shots only . --- Squirrels , cottontails , skunks , crows even the odd groundhog . Two coons as well (at 20 -30') . --- 4.5mm (0.177) pellets are available everywhere and are inexpensive . --- Scopes stay fixed in position (NO DOUBLE-SHUFFLE-RECOIL as in a SPRINGER) . --- Don't scoff at ONLY 800 fps. , the pellet will penetrate 1-1.5'' of soft wood . --- The ''super-fast-ones'' often suffer accuracy-wise .
