Sturgeon Smallies
Only had a couple of hours this morning to get out and wet some lures. Hit 3 different areas and got some fish on topwaters around the docks, rock beds, and some gravel points as well. Lost a couple of decent sized fish that have me wondering if I should replace some stock trebles.
Next week I hope to fish some of the other public access locations around Sturgeon first thing in the morning in hopes of raising some larger fish.
Definitely noticed a lot less boat traffic on the water this year, even though I saw about 30 of them on the road before getting to the lake.
Cheers, and hope that your opener went well.

Hi there Rugger, it was nice to get out there that's for certain.
We were strictly chucking hard baits like poppers, spit n' images, and a couple of cranks at the spots we hit. I find that they allow for more water coverage which is kind of needed at the location as there is an expansive weed flat just out from the docks. As well, the hardbaits allow for easier casting to adjacent docks situated in water accessible only to waders.
Not really a fan of soft plastics actually...something I think I might need to change at some point. I like the solid strikes I get casting cranks and topwaters.
Plus the smallies on Sturgeon are funny...there are days when I should be casting spinnerbaits due to the chop on the water but I end up catching them on topwaters, as happened later in the morning on Saturday.
