I realize that. However the extra surplus tags for the controlled hunt show zero for 92B. I will have to be selective now....

Think of it this way guys! One year with major cut backs means bigger deer populations the following.. Don't see why everyone is upset over being allowed a tag or two each. We are all in this together and want the deer herd to do well. And this is really the only way to help it.

Just wonder what science they used. I hunt 87 and 79 and 87 has more deer but 79 has two archery and two controlled hunt tags. Wonder how they determined what to cut.

The properties/farms you hunt may be better cover and normally hold more deer than average for the unit. Do you really think you can give an educated opinion of the entire WMU?

I agree. What if we were to get another brutal winter? We hunt for fun not to feed our families. Lets at least try and manage the herds intelligently.

I welcome the cut backs in tags. Hunting should get a little easier when there are more deer around.

If you put a whole animal in the freezer that is a good chunk of meat. My fiancee has her license now and cannot wait to get out this year. I bet she gets one and I just have to do all the work, tag soup has been it for me over the last couple years, additional tag soup as well.

I have seen lots of deer but with this past winter I would not be surprised if the deer population dropped, tag cuts are fine with me.

Now all the have to do is change the way they allocate moose tags, come on bulls only.

There is no rhym or reason why they cut excess tags, especially in the southwest. Yet, in WMU. 8, where it was reported a. 80% winter kill, they offer 1200 excess tags. This is after they virtually eliminated the moose tags because of severe winter kill ! Try to explain that one. I spent hundreds of hours this past winter in the field, walking bushes as well as nearly every day of the turkey season. Not one dead deer was found. The hundreds of deer I did see were all in excellent condition.
I hope the OFAH gets some sort of explanation.

I see surplus tags in 78 - where there were none last year. I don't understand the logic.

I guess I don't really understand why the hotline for surplus tags opens before the regular draw is complete. I usually buy a surplus tag in 78 because I bow hunt there and never get an antlerless tag in 68b where I put in for the draw. I could technically get two doe tags if I wanted for two separate wmu's. Which I was trying to avoid. Oh well.

I guess the bubble has burst somewhat. For most of the last decade we've truly enjoyed the "good ol' days" of deer hunting. I just hope we never return to what I'm told were the dark days of the 1970's.
