Amazing, 2500 excess tags in 13 after the severe winter and high deer mortality, yet in the southwest, 92,93,and 94, no excess tags. No evidence of winter mortality, as admitted by the responsible biologist in Aylmer. They sure didn't base this decision on sound science !!
Or, was it a decision based on an attempt to plaquate the antis, similar to the arbitrary elimination of the spring bear hunt of years ago ????

In 2014 a total of 17,545 additional deer seals will be available in participating WMUs. Most of these seals will be offered for sale through an automated telephone system or by Internet from July 16, 2014 to July 31, 2014, on a first come, first served basis.

I can't speak for the MNR, but it might go along with the severely reduced Moose quotas. We dropped to 140 moose tags in total for WMU 13, whereas last year I think we were around 1100.

I guess they want us to keep pressure on the deer so that the moose can recover.

In town is only the rural and semi-rural areas on the outskirts of the city limits. Bow only, yes, and you must be elevated a minimum of 3 metres. If it is not your property, then you must have written permission of the property owner, also with permission to dress the deer on the property if you do it there. If there is another property within 75 metres, then you must have signed permission from that property owner as well. You must not be closer than 75 metres to a dwelling or roadway. No field dressing animals on City land or the roadways. No use of bait until Nov 1st.

Still, there are lots that participate! I have not gotten around to it, and will not until I buy a replacement crossbow for the one that was stolen.

It's nice, but it's not all unicorns and rainbows
