While it's a relatively big area, there isn't really a safe place to target shoot - it's a frequently used spot by cyclists and horseback riders as well as runners and people out for hikes. I certainly wouldn't be firing a rifle in there as the trails criss cross the property and you never know who's around the corner and there aren't a whole lot of ideal back stops. Most people that are in there are hunting what little small game they can find but I've long given up there.

I understand that the MNR may be organizing a group to caretake the place but that's just a rumour I'd heard. Call the MNR office in Midhurst if you want better answers.

Copeland Forest is a WMU all on its own (76E). Look it up in the regs and you will see that it pretty much has the same regs as any other land, other than the controlled gun hunt for deer is muzzle-loaders only.

Boozie is right, its not the right place for target shooting. And for those who do target shoot in there, I'm tired of carrying out your garbage!!!

I hope you are paying very good attention to what boozyleroux and ninepointer have written for you here!

While we welcome all questions here and everyone tries to help, you still need to READ the Hunting Regulations for yourself and try to understand what the rules are in any given location at any given time.
In addition to that you need to check out discharge bylaws for various locations as well.
Target practice - especially with a rifle - is not something that is automatically allowed in most places, even if the caliber is permitted to be used for hunting in the same area!
Play safe and welcome to the forums by the way.
