On July 5th, as a member of the Toronto Urban Fishing Ambassador, I was teaching kids how to fish at the Family Fishing Day on the Toronto Islands.
While I was walking around helping kids put worms on the hook, pointing out the little sunfish right at their feet, or teaching them how to cast, I saw a Bowfin stalking prey in the thick weeds.
I could point that fish out to all the kids and parents...but I can just imagine the ensuing chaos when all the novice little anglers try to cast their line at that big fish. Instead, I ran to grab my own rod and attempted to catch it so the kids can see that magnificent fish.
Here's how it went. (Thanks to PUMP KNOWS for the video! I usually don't have a videographer by my side LOL)
I love how excited Vanna got! He was even happier than I was! It truly shows the passion that all the TUFA members have in fishing and promoting our sport to the public.
I caught 1 little bowfin before the event started, and 2 bigger Bowfin (including this one) during the event. After everything finished and we packed up, I stayed to fish some more and caught 2 Common Cap in the evening. I'm still waiting for some of the pics...so I'll update the post here later.
Here are some more pics.
