Wink It's Been A Fishy Summer

Hey guys, I know I haven't been posting much lately (and I've heard about it LOL!!) but a lot of you guys know me or have me on Facebook and know how busy I've been this summer. I've been writing for various publications, helped run a Bassmasters tournament, am the editor for my angling association, and just got back from two weeks up at the lake in Haliburton, where my mother in law fell and broke her foot. That made for a busy vacation!!!

Despite all of the busyness, I've managed to put a lot of hours in on the water this spring and summer and have done quite well, all things considered. The highlight of my summer fishing is always my trip up north and this year was to be especially good because I was going up for two weeks and had made plans with a local to fish some of his spots. Unfortunately, my mother in law suffered an accident on the stairs and broke the bone in her heel soon after my kids and I got up there and that altered some of our plans. Regardless though, I still got in a ton of fishing, and finally had some successful fishing trips in the kayak. I had a lot of fun playing around with top water lures, and while I didn't catch anything big on them, seeing the water boil up under one as a fish takes it was thrilling!

Every evening I had my kids out fishing on the dock with me and they both did very well, with my youngest landing a 15lb snapping turtle on a kiddy pole and some crazy strong mono....the turtle ripped a hole through the landing net, but didn't even nick that line lol!

The biggest fish I landed from the dock

    Another one

    Success in the kayak

PB Pumpkinseed lol....fought like a bass!!

First time ever trolling for rainbows. Got this wee one in 30FOW. Way different than stream fishing!

And of course.....the rock bass that are never far off. This is the biggest one I've ever seen and it weighed in at 9 oz. A half pound rock bass!!!

My sons, each with their big fish. Neither would touch them lol.

So, it's been a busy and fish filled summer and I'm starting now to look towards steelhead season as it looks as though we will have an early fall. Here's hoping to a good run and looking to seeing you guys on the river!!
