i was thinking the same thing! If you can smell it that's way too close. I would defiantly be having a chat with him as soon as possible about his chosen location

We are on an island and it is on public land 200 yards across a river from my cottage. You only smell it when he uses the dead fish, and the wind is wrong. He could shoot me off of my front porch from his stand, except there are a few trees in the way. I could complain , but he seems to be a nice guy, gave me a bunch of bear sausages for letting him shoot ducks from my property, and it IS public land. Some people forget that others use the area when you are not actively hunting.

I kinda of have the same thing happing 2 yrs ageo when i had been baiting a bait for 3yrs. In that year i ran into a outfitter that threatend me about hunting his stand which i didnt ever hunt out of or didn't know was there as it was a quad trail and I was at the far end at a beaver flood.
About 200 yrds from the road there was an old platform stand I know guys hunt moose out of and he was just just putting 5 gal pail of food out each day and was hunting weekdays. I was there weekends so we never seen each other. That year I moved my stand not that far down the rd about 1/4 km and on the other side of the road on a creek. Well not to long ago I got a threating letter in the mail with no name of sender saying he was going get me charged if i was seen at or hunted his baits. The letter said that I wasn't allowed to hunt there that i was a poacher (which I am not).
We sent the letter to the MNR guy we know well up there in Perry Sound area and he contacted both the guys with bma beside me. The MNR has called back and said I can set my bait in any area I wanna put it. I just can't interfere with his hunting or baiting so that means no use of stands, bait piles, pouring diesel on baits, can't play loud music, light firecrackers ect to bug him or hunters.
You can hunt where ever you like were his words to us and he said there will not be more problems with the outfiter ans we will be shown where baits are so we can set up so not too close to each other.
There are lots bears in the woods. I don't care for 500 lb - I would be happy with 250 lb bear (better eater)
Now another guy that I hunted with has a new gang with 13 ppl in it. They're going to try and take over my area so now the problem is I cant stop them from hunting any place they want to so i just going to hunt later and let them hunt the first week. They're gone for the year and are a bunch of guys and girls that don't care for the meat just love to kill. I love to eat bear, deer and I kill - they don't. They waste lots but unless caught red handed I can't do anything about it and it pisses me off but being crown land ppl can hunt where ever they want.
I know it sucks. I've had the same camp 14 yrs now baiting so I at least now have some good spots that i have always left stands and barrels all yr and never touched them. This year i pulled it all out of the woods and locked it up so they can't use it.

Sorry, when I hear someone say John Madden I think of him yelling "Football".
Just the ADD part of my brain.
Thunderbug's post was perfectly valuable, just tough to read.
We all run into problems on public land, but that is one of the things with public land, it is public.
Nothing is worse then someone taking the spot you used to hunt or someone saying that public land is "Their" spot, it comes from both sides and ideally everyone should work together.

Yes please remember not everyone here is as tech savvy or has the same writing skills as others. Please be respectful to everyone and treat each other with respect.
To help prevent further issues and to allow others to respond I helped with the flow of Thunderbug's response.

Very true point. Outfitters and guides definitely see more crap like this in a season compared to the average hunter. Plus I think it grinds a little more when you have your livelihood being infringed upon, not just your weekend hunting time. If people are having problems with their one bait, try thinking what its like to have 20+ baits.
When you're out baiting and your trucks parked at the side of the road, although you might not think anything of it, there will be one person who remembered exactly where you parked. I guess the curiosity gets to some people and they will return to the exact spot once you leave and go in for a look. Hell they'll even go in for a look when theres a hunter on a stand.
What they'll do later just depends on the person. Some people are just curious while others are down right malicious. Believe me, putting your baits over 100km down a logging road wont stop some people either, just slightly reduce some of the BS.

How does that work in Ontario? I have seen outfitters (never used) but seen, and they have their own land, and aren't baiting on crown.
I know out west, outfitters actually steak/mark the land they are using.
I wouldn't of thought that outfitters would just use crown, for this exact reason, having a clients hunt ruined by someone else sitting a few yards away.
