Kudos to the BGBTO folks who have done great work to promote and expand the use of tracking dogs. I do believe that if the BGBTO will start allow different breeds to participate in their events it will greatly expand their membership base

There are breeds other than dachshunds in our group.

Not to resurrect an older thread, but there are proven trackers other than those in the group as well. I may look into joining the group again, but the first impression from the fellow that contacted me was "keep your mutt at home", basically - even though you don't need a purebred to blood track (I think it says that somewhere on their site too).
All in all however, the organization does promote what a capable blood tracking dog can do for hunting overall! A bonus for our community.

I would recomend to any deer hunter to keep a contact number handy for the BGBTO. I had a need for a tracking dog last year and learned the hard way to be better prepared, by the time I got a dog out we lost a half day. They are good folks and only ask for gas money (at least for me as I was relatively close).
I have also been corrected in my earlier post that the BGBTO do have other breeds, there was apparantly one event for Dacshunds that I had been confused with.
Thanks again to the BGBTO folks for leading the way in big game recovery work.

Even the event you speak of allowed entries by other breeds. There was a GSP and my Ridgeback. And the best judges.
