Fun With Chuckars
A couple of weeks ago I went to Gerbers and picked up a load of chuckars . The guys came on the weekend and warmed up their dogs for the pheasant season . My brother in law did not have time to shoot his and we got extra to practice the sit to flush with Anna's dog.
We put the chuckars in a big dog run and covered it so the could not get out , there were 4 or 5 chuckars that the hunters missed and they come to the pen and try to get in . we put out food for them too .
Now the birds are so fat they look like chickens . The diet starts tomorrow. Even the doves are eating like pigs. Is this the sign of a long ,cold winter?
They sure are a great little training bird and as they are not a native species we can use them whenever.Just don't overfeed them.
