This is exactly the reason why I posted the list. The guy just wants to get out hunting, why put extra hurdles in front of him?

thanks .... im not saying i cant Do my own Scouting.. im in London once a week for trade school this makes my scouting limited because im sure 5:30 am is not a Good time to start knocking on doors ... and after school every one is having dinner that would be rude also ... I have 1-1/2 hour drive back home so makes it hard to go back in a couple of hours to knock on doors

sorry if my post seem like i just want a hand out . that's not true i have a handful of hunt spots out in NB that i had to go door to door . so i understand why some are a little grumpy about this topic

Thanks for sharing this. Some good info here. Having a few hundred acres of private and family owed land, I don't plan on hunting any of these public spots anytime soon, but it's a great option for those that are new to the sport and have nowhere to go.

I'm all for helping someone new out, as long as they are willing to help themselves too, put in the gas and miles to check things out, rather than just "go here, here and here" and off they go.

The problem then becomes, once these things are shared, over and over and over, and posted, and re-posted, and then so and so tells so and so.

Now these public places, are too crowded, and you can't find a spot for yourself.

Not that big of a deal up here, which is why I will share a spot or two, down by my parents, not a chance. While we have piles of private to hunt exclusively, there are some crown spots to that the minute someone finds out about it, and then goes posting, will be over run.

Are these spots for everyone? if crown, absolutely... If someone is willing to put in the work, to find them, weather that be map books, google maps, a google search, get in the truck and just drive and watch, setup cams and see. etc.

Should they be handed out on a silver platter because someone doesn't want to do the above?

Just my thoughts on the source sharing of hunting locations.

I have no problem with the sharing. I just think it's funny or odd that we are all like mined with regards to hunting and fishing and should be united as such, however, on this site, there is so much negativity towards each other with regards to technique, sharing and overall help that it doesn't make any sense.

As technology advances, common sense would dictate that things should get easier, that includes internet scouting to find spots. Why would someone choose to do something the hard way if an easy way exists? Doing something the hard way doesn't make it more rewarding in my opinion. If you want to do something the hard way, leave the keys on the hook and walk to work tomorrow, see how rewarding that is....

Why can't we just help each other out, regardless of how hard you needed to work, age, experience or location.....

I feel you, TurkeyRookie, but I think the info on this thread DOES require the two-way effort that you're talking about. Just because a property is on the list doesn't mean it's populated by the wildlife you plan to hunt, or by much wildlife period, or has parking, or has vehicle access at all, or offers access to practical hunting spots, or has practical hunting spots that are easy to find. If you want to hunt somewhere because you saw it on the list, you still have to put in the gas and the miles and check it out. You also have to put in some at-home research time, online and in some cases on the phone, because not everything on the list is a Crown-style free-for-all. Many of those properties might restrict some of the activities auxilary to hunting, such as camping, ATVing, tree stand installation, etc, and some have very specific rules. For example, at Wye Marsh I think you have to book a blind for waterfowl hunting and it only happens on certain days (I don't know the details). Algonquin Park (Clyde, Bruton and Eyre Twps - ie the "panhandle") is on the list, yet I think the only people allowed to hunt there are owners and guests of certain hunt camps that were grandfathered when the area was added to the park. And that's not easy info to find.

So really this is just a very basic starting point. The equivalent for fishing would be to provide a list of all the lakes and rivers in Ontario that aren't year-round fish sanctuaries or entirely private property, ie most of them - it still wouldn't tell you what waters are actually worth fishing and which have special regulations or limits on access.

And I don't think it's unfair to provide that starting point. For those who are lucky enough to have a hunting group or camp they can join when they start hunting, their first experience probably is literally "'go here, here and here' and off they go" - to a stand where pushers will drive deer right past them, or to a blind surrounded by duck decoys. Others who don't have that advantage might still have their own property, or a friend's property that they have access to and are familiar with. If you're not in either of those categories and you're relying on public lands that you've never heard of before you saw them on a list, you're already in probably the most challenging position a new hunter (or an old hunter new to the region) can be in, so I don't think it's unfair to give them this fairly minimal leg-up. Not if we want to encourage people to take up hunting, anyway.

Great information and much appreciated - I personally think the more information like this is available, the more "spread out" hunters will be. When only one or two spots are easily found then of course hunters congregate there, but if there are lots of spots with a combination of federal, provincial and municipal lands... then hopefully the variety will help.

People also need to be willing to do some hiking. If everyone hunts a few hundred feet from where the road ends, then of course it's going to be crowded :-)
