I would think you should be fine as long as they can read the number stamped along the edge of the card.

just keep it in a small ziploc bag ...my gun case has a plastic waterproof pouch for permits, so i use that

Save yourself the bother and just use a good zip lock sandwich bag. Never had a problem keeping it dry and safe in one of them.

I keep mine, along with all my licenses, tags, outdoors card, boat license etc. In a passport wallet, keep it around my neck.
