Default New Oral Flea and Tick Preventative-Lasts 3 months per dose

Bravecto, looks promising. Just now available in Canada.
I'm not a fan of Advantix and the other topicals as I find they leave an oily residue, have a strong odour, and not something you want kids getting on their face or hands when playing with the dog.

Thanks. I'll have to ask my vet if she is using that product in the Spring.

Gotta say though, my dog has never had a tick or flea since I put him on Advantix. It is a little messy to apply but works .
I’m suspicious of people who don't like dogs, but I trust a dog who doesn't like a person.

This actually looks VERY promising. A single dose for 3 months coverage is a bonus and yes it would be nice not to have to worry about the exposure of the insecticide on the skin of the dog.

Thanks for the heads up be2man

I see it sells for $60 US on Amazon.com....I wonder what the vets will charge for it here

Supposed to be available in a 2-pack for next spring for a 6 months supply. It looks like they're pricing it to be competitive to 6 months of other flea and tick products plus some extra cause it's new. I'd guess anywhere from mid $60's in "rural" Ontario to ~$100 in the GTA per dose for the largest dog size 40-55kg

At ~$53/dose for the largest size here, so I'm sure you're right with the exchange difference and lower wholesale cost in the US.

birth defects data is sort of disconcerting...

it was approved in the us May of this year. it's made in Austria and was approved in the EU in February (launched in April). afterall, it appears to be a fairly novel compound.
no idea about the trail subject numbers in Europe, but the leaflet talks only about 224 subjects for the US trail with one reported adverse event. the birth abnormalities are not further discussed; I bet they were considered statistically not significant, otherwise they would not have received approval for the drug.
it's not one of those live safer drugs, so to me it certainly falls into the wait and see category for the next 2-3 years.
