My father has worked in meat factories for most of his life. He knows of how the live stock raised are being fed. Obviously they are being given chemicals to grow faster, bigger..etc. Something my father is always disgusted about is how some people can eat store bought processed foods such as hot dogs. These foods are littered in chemicals for preservation, fats, and sodium that should not be ingested... But most of us eat these foods anyways, and yet these are by most standards much worse than fish coming from Lake Ontario. Don't even get me started on the vegetables and fruit that are sprayed when grown as well. So if you are going to make the salmon argument, you should re-evaluate what you are actually eating from grocery stores as well, because these foods are by no means "cleaner" when it comes down to it.

5.5 lb leader on a salmon? Must be a half dead chinny then, def. not a chrome king, even with a half dead one, against the current would be impossible to land on a 5.5 lb leader, i call b.s. on that one but yes i have used 8 and 10 lb leaders on rivers, like bville creek or the ganny or oshawa creek or the g-bay tribs where there is lots of room to walk around and maneuver fish out of log jams but def. not in the spot i was at last weekend.

II thought you said above even a half dead one against current would be impossible to land. That's exactly what my son did to get that fish, and by the way, it wasn't half dead, it had just one up from the lake. Dark fish do stage, you know that right?

They stage but that fish has been coming in and out of current and you said your son landed it on 8 lb mainline right? That's still impressive for a 10 year old boy but what I said and what you are talking about are 2 different things, he landed it in an open area, he also landed it on 8 lb line and a long noodle rod and the fish was also not chrome.

I recommend 40 lb wireline . Yanks them and the log jam out at the same time . 6, 0 hook weighted .

OK pikattack, I'm glad you now agree with us, that it is possible to catch a salmon on a 6 lb line, that is fresh from the lake. Because that is how I caught a lot of my fish. Some with trees, some in high current areas. We went out today and caught a few +20 lbers in pretty tight areas. Not easy, but doable. We lost many yes, but landed some too after 15 minute fights. All fresh fish, jumping almost 2 ft out of the water when they have a hook in their mouth. Was an awesome day of fishing.

OK pikattack, I'm glad you now agree with us, that it is possible to catch a salmon on a 6 lb line, that is fresh from the lake. Because that is how I caught a lot of my fish. Some with trees, some in high current areas. We went out today and caught a few +20 lbers in pretty tight areas. Not easy, but doable. We lost many yes, but landed some too after 15 minute fights. What makes you think they are fresh run fish?

Because we basically saw them coming in from the mouth of the river and we walked up the river catching them along the way. I assume if they are coming from the lake into the river by the dozens per minute they are fresh run?
