    Default Bit the bullet and bought a Browning Abolt 12 Gauge slug gun!

    I always wanted to try one so I figured may as well take the plunge.

    Mounted a scope and off I go to the range. Only had time to sight it in and try two loads. The bolt is smooth.
    Here is the best out of the two loads I tried today;

    Not bad for today and not bad for a 12. I only gave a minute of cool time between shots so this group should shrink.
    Just a note, the $8 federal slugs shot almost as well. Tried a shot at 200 yards and hit paper not allowing much for drop so there is promise.
    I think I can get an inch with the right ammo.

    Very nice, If I was deer hunting in a shotgun zone that's one I would be getting. Enjoy.

    Nice shooting and great looking gun!

    I was out with my son yesterday sighting in his new 12 gauge Browning BPS topped off with a Redfield scope. He was shooting 3 inch Remington accutips and got similar resutls at 75 yards. (100 yards not available). He was very pleased with the gun and smoothness of the action. It was on paper out of the box without bore sighting and only took 9 shells to make it into a reliable deer killing machine ready for this fall. He will spend a bit more time with it before the hunt but it sure is a sweet shooting gun.

    You cant go wrong with any Browning firearm.

    I guess you don't need that pos Savage any more. Because you're a fellow board member and an entertaining poster, I'll help you get rid of it.

    Beauty gun Rob, congrats. I don't have to see the paper to know you will soon be nailing it at 200'yards, you could always shoot.

    They are a fantastic gun. Maybe try the 2 3/4" Accutips, my H&R Ultra slug hunter likes them WAY better than the 3" ones. Yet, my 20 gauge H&R likes the 3" better.

    Thanks folks!

    Woody - So good to see you still are active on this board!

    Jim - I will be allowing either the Abolt or the savage to leave the stable so pm me if your serious. Just starting with the Abolt for accuracy. I will likely try every sabot slug made to dial it in then the big question is whether it is a 200 yard gun? As Impact said you can't go wrong with a browning and I have the same opinion of the Savage. 4 owned and all 4 were shooters. I have a bore guide and crowning tool for 20 gauge so I have to decide whether it makes sense to crown the gun to try and get smaller groups. My ML was crowned and it made a heck of a difference.

    I also have 2 Sav 212 bolt 12 gauges lined up. I am going to buy one to compare capabilities.
