shotgun ammo for coyotes
Who here hunts coyotes with shotguns and what shells do you use?
Ive been patterning a few loads today including 00buck 2 3/4 and 3". 2 3/4" 000 along with 3 and 3 1/2" #2 steel. Any suggestions for 30-40yd shots?

00 is what 9 pellets makes for some big holes in your pattern ,smaller size pellets give a much better pattern and a lot more pellets down range .if you pattern your shotgun with all the different size buckshot you will find what works best for your gun ,Dutch

Down here I use Remington Express Magnum 3" #4 buck( 41 Pellet count), up north I carry the same shells but with 00 buck just because it is legal for bears and has 15 pellets.
Federal has just come out with a 3" #4 buck load with the same pellet count as the Remington shells.

Either 00 or 000 buck shot in 2 3/4" or 3" mag works wonders with a full choke. They're excellent for hunting in thick bush or swamps.
If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....

When you could get your hands on BB Lead the guys back home would use that.
No need for OOO Buck, you have very few pellets and they are huge, punching huge holes in the pelt.
Pattern some #4 buck and go from there, if you can find BB Lead give that a pattern as well.
BB = 0.18" Dia - 50 pellets / oz
#4 Buck = 0.24" Dia - 21 pellets / oz
OOO Buck = 0.36" DIa - 6.2 pellets / oz
With large shot take a look at longer choke tubes, there are buckshot choke tubes, they are longer for the same constriction, this really helps with keeping the shot round and stretching out your range.
Best of luck
