Morning at Ruffwood
I decided to take our Brittany to Ruffwood yesterday for a fall tune-up. He hadn't been in front of a bird (although countless squirrels and chipmunks) since last fall. We have stayed true to his training, and worked on several skill-developments throughout the summer.
I was a little apprehensive that he would be sloppy - not the case. We ran him around the property to blow off some steam, then got down to work. We had 5 Chuker put out, and 4 solid points. He began to creep on the very last point after it was shot and down, but before I released him. If this is the only transgression in a year, it is the least of my concerns. We took home 5 birds with some great shooting (if I may say so myself)!
My fiancé took the day off to see what all this was about, and she enjoyed herself (uh-oh!). She worked the camera and I worked the shotgun. This was the first time that she saw our little guy working; needless to say, we were both impressed. Most importantly, everyone had fun!
The fields at Ruffwood were in great shape. Mike was friendly as always.

Well done. I have been to Ruffwood a couple times and Mike and Donna are great people with a really nice facility. Sounds like your dog is doing great. I took mine to a game farm also this Saturday and the little bugger did great after being off since last fall too. Gotta love those Brittanys.
I’m suspicious of people who don't like dogs, but I trust a dog who doesn't like a person.

Too bad, it sounds like you might lose your camera person... and have to share some equipment.
Make sure you have finished speaking before your audience has finished listening.

Good job - Running around the property before the hunt is actually a good idea - i always forget that. Great job on the shooting (gun and camera).

Do you guys find that the hunt at Ruffwood is a little to easy? With the light cover and the chukar holding a little to tight.Have to kick some of them. And the pheasants in the brush piles bit a little predictable to.
