Training the wild way.
I just got back from a watching trainer Spencer Ray from Creek Haven Ranch work dogs on grouse and woodcock.
Of course i hunted along side him while the king of game birds teach these young dogs many lessons.
I arrived 4:30 Friday afternoon and half an hour later I'm watching my young pointer freeze on a grouse. The bird already flushed but this is where wild birds do the teaching.Working with Spencer was of course fun and informative. He stresses handling ,handling and more handling.
What a great way to start this hunting season!

Spencer is a pro. I take it you just got back from his annual Grouse Camp? How was the woodcock action up there?
I’m suspicious of people who don't like dogs, but I trust a dog who doesn't like a person.

Just got back from his annual grouse camp .
Local birds only ,therefore not bad but expect many more in a few weeks when the migration begins.
