Arrow help.

Im looking for a little help with my arrow building. First off Im using a 60lb pse bow witch was measured at 62 lb draw weight at my area bow shop (not sure if that was possible) and my arrow length measurement is 25 3/4". From everything I have read so far I should be choosing 6,7,8 gpi multiplied by my draw weight to find my total arrow weight with nock, insert, broad head, fletching's etc included. Now with that said I have been to a couple arrow manufacturers websites and built arrows using the calculation programs they provide. The problem I seem to be having is that I hear arrows should be between 10-15% FOC. Most of the ones I try and build end up around 20% FOC or end up under the calculated total arrow weight at 13-15% FOC. How important is this? What am I doing wrong? Just looking for some advice or help. Thx

If you look on the back of the box of arrows there should be a graph with draw weight and length. That will tell you what arrows you should by. Or you can ask the people at the bow shop.

Absolutely nothing wrong with a hunting arrow with an FOC of 20% this will shorten your effective distance but for most of us in Ontario most of our shots are less then 50yards
my current hunting arrows are 17% FOC and they hit like a Mack truck

Those are pretty short arrows, I know everyone has a preference for trying to shoot the lightest arrow possible but you may find by shooting a slightly longer arrow you get better flight regardless of FOC calcs. Say 27 to 28" . what's your draw length.


I shoot a little heavier and longer arrow in my bow than I need but I find it flys better, and I usually shoot 30" arrows.

My draw length is 26 1/2"

oddly enough when I nock an arrow and come to full draw, the point where the string contacts the nock measured to my knuckles on the riser( I believe that's the front of my riser) is 25 3/4". This puts the end of my arrow shaft 1 1/2" past my whisker bisket.
