wolves on my side of the park are rediculous too... we are in the no shoot zone... way to many of them around... last year i had them cross my fenceline, and were only 50 yds from where our horses wouldve bin eating their hay...

seen very few actual grey wolves in my life... had 2 in my inlaws hay field a few years ago, but all i had with my was a shotgun, and figured the 300 yd shot wouldve bin a stretch lol seen a pure white wolf one year while deer hunting... i was hid behind a falled tree and he walked up the trail towards me and stopped at about 50 yds, think he scented me, he stood there for a minute then turned and went back the way he came... i had my scope right between his eyes, but had no reason to shoot him, so didnt pull the trigger... he was only doing what i was doing... hunting
    fishy steve
id rather be lost in the woods, than found in the city!

Where I hunt Moose and Deer there seems to be a major increase in wolves and coyotes (and it seems like every other big game track is followed by a wolf track) and the deer and moose population is going down (not just my opinion MNR, says so with reduced tags this year). We (my group, not me personally) are also seeing them at least once a season now where before we would go years between sightings and we are seeing them in the summer.

So I've decided I want to buy a wolf tag and if I see one on my watch I will pull the trigger because if a wolf is near the moose is likely not heading my way. However I won't shoot a wolf just to shoot a wolf. I'd love to get one stuffed one day but when I can afford it. to my understanding you don't want to eat them. what it comes down to is pelts I figure.

so here's my question... What do I do with the pelt, go visit the nearest trapper and sell it, take it to the fur harvesters? what else can I do as to not waste such a beautiful creature. With your answers if you could include if there are any legal things (permits etc) I would need to keep or sell anything that would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

You can do any number of things that you've already mentioned. Furbearers that are taken under a hunting license are regarded as the same as those taken under a trappers license. We may sell them as you described or keep them ourselves. You Tube has many great videos for preparing, drying and tanning hides. It's not as difficult as it seems, just time-consuming. If wolves are a nuisance to livestock or residences, they can still be shot,no matter which area you live in,restricted or not. Just an FYI.
If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....

Thanks trimmer21. I know where the local trapper's cabin is. I think I'll stop in and introduce myself.
