People confuse Gadwalls with Mallards all the time, even in hand. I've corrected a few people in the past!

Yes pintail I thought juvee drake because of the bill there is slight blueing on the bill there was also many pin feathers coco said hen as many others did but definitely pintail. After referencing hens can develop the blue on the bill as well. Drakes generally have longer necks then hens and a bronze green on the wing patch I'm pretty confident that it was an immature from what I saw

I had the same situation last Friday, first year drake pintail. Had to use the bill and wing to determine the sex. Here is a good vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVfApUgZEys

That's pretty sneaky.

I'd bet 99% of duck hunters would get it wrong.

I have lots of wind ID photos, but again, 99% of guys here would get them wrong.
