    Default Thanksgiving Success

Two weekends ago was a good outing for my 2 yr old male Vizsla, Titan, as we put up 6 grouse but none resulted in any presentable shots (they were flushing out of sight in deep thick stuff and I could only hear the thunderous roar of their wings, only 1 was re-flushed but eluded me).

Fast forward to this weekend....and Saturday was a bust - one find and I missed!

Sunday my hubby took a quick morning walk sans hunting dog and came back waving his grouse at my nose (how dare he show me up!) Bah!
Thankfully Titan didn't let me down and my boy and I were just heading back in for lunch from our outing when he suddenly got birdy and veered off in front of me to the right about 25 feet and jolted into point for 1/2 second before the grouse thundered up and into a tree - - right in front of me bobbing its head side to side I locked my sight on him and down he came. Getting the first one of the season always feels so good!

Very proud of Titan, he is finding birds that I would have not known about in the deep bush (gives our hunt camp an idea about how the population is doing, even if the birds don't end up in the bag).

Today was different....put up the same damned bird 5 times (twice the first time around and I missed the shot), took a break went back after lunch and in the same spot put it up 3 times and it disappeared into thin air after the third flush). I know I have to work on my wing shooting skills!.

Titan and I are tired, and he is all cut up from head to toe so a little extra babying him Here is a snapshot of my handsome boy, and another of our success. I always get teary eyed with him in the bush and in photo's...even though he isn't closely related to my Hunter girl, he reminds me of her in so many ways:

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Very nice. The more I see posts like this the more I think I have to get a dog.

Great photo's and sounds like he is holding up his end of the deal, time to hit the trap range

My Lab gives me "the look" when shots are ringing out and she isn't being released.

Great Pictures ! I cannot believe how many hunters come out to hunt pheasants without a dog . It is almost impossible to get the birds up without a dog . Pointer or flusher don't waste money on a paid hunt without a dog.

Kickingfrog - there was a period in between the loss of Hunter and before Titan was ready to hunt where I was dogless in the bush - didn't enjoy it. I actually prefer to be the dog wrangler and don't require shooting anything to consider it a good day, I enjoy watching and controlling the dog work.
Wood Witch - I would like to put Titan on pheasants, I know that is something he would immensely love. The way he attacks the bush with such vigor and tenacity, he would be great on them.

Awesome, nothing like seeing a young dog put it together on grouse.

    Excellent report and pictures.
I hope my dog gets me a wild bird soon. At 15 months, he seems to be a "natural" so far.
He was successful in pointing - and retrieving - a released pheasant two weeks ago.
