Now wouldn't that be "The Old Man's Handbook"? Maybe I should write the new one.

Thats the truth. Too many land owners are sick of whiners and kicks everyone off. Lost a bush 1 week for the season opened a few years back. Had to take down 5 sets. Pain in the .

Boys don't kid yourselves. It'll all be gone soon enough. This is just the start. Pretty soon if you don't own it you're screwed.
How is it one careless cigarette can cause a forest fire, but it takes a whole box of matches to light a campfire?

So sorry for your loss, I've been there. All you can do now is start knocking on doors. Best of luck to you.
Years ago when I was a kid the farmers would give you a wave as you went in to hunt for rabbit, grouse whatever. Problems began that I noticed in the early 80's more people from the cities were moving out to the country buying up old farms and building their yuppie mansions and with the majority of those city people came their attitudes.

I just tried to get permission for a property up the road from me. I'd been trying to track the owner down since spring. Finally talked to him today. He says he already has guys hunting on his property (none that I've ever seen but fair enough) and if he starts letting too many guys on then he ends up having to manage things. Sucks to be told no but nothing I can do about it and it's totally understandable.

Part of the problem:
In a natural environment 8/10 fawns die.
Bears on avg. eat 3
Coyotes, Wolves, Cougars take another 4
One will die of natural causes.
Around more developed areas (Tree Huggers) who think they are saving "bambi" the survival rate is 7/10.
So you get this deer explosion every spring, lots of food, farm fields, natural food supply...etc.
Then the fall comes, farm fields go, and if we get a bad winter, the deer hunker down in the thickets and just starve to death.
2X I've come across dead piles. 14 deer one time, 8 another, all starved to death, and the "TREE HUNGERS" don't see it, F'n Idiots.

Land owners have the Right to refuse the use of their land. With that in mind, the answer to all your problems becomes obvious, you have to invest in your hunting future.
Options
Have a decent amount of money, buy land.
Have a small amount of money buy land with another hunter or hunters.
Have an even smaller amount lease land seasonally, get a money break via sweat equity.
Have no money locate and hunt public or Crown land.
But for goodness sake don't sit there whining and moaning about tree huggers, city folks and other perceived obstacles to your hunting.
