Got into some tired birds today 5 around Exeter.

South western, shot 5, ran out of shells. 9 flushes, had a good day, got lucky

Supposed to be on call but the client finished up early so I had the morning before having to get on a conference call....
Hunted 2 spots in Norfolk Co. W/C found only in one spot, all birds flushed from one band of tight cover. Four flushed from there.
If the flight is in I can expect double digits in these spots yet all the birds were clustered in one area and most of the cover was blank. With cold weather and north winds I was hoping for fast action. But I can't complain: shot 3 of 4, which has to be my best shooting percentage on woodcock, plus a bonus pheasant.

Starting to suspect the numbers are way down this year.
