My friend, deer have been scarce this year, apparently as a direct result of our horrible winter last year...
If this crap continues, there will be NO DEER to track...

...or "climate return to normal"... We had winters worse than last in the '60's and early '70's. In 55B it took until the 1980's for the deer pops to recover to what they were in the '50s.

We should not reduce doe tags though, that would be an abomination :P.
I am worried about this year, we shall see how it all works out.
Worse than the snow would be ice in and amongst this snow, those hard layers with the snow make it a lot harder on the deer than snow on its own.

Has too much time on their hands
ice can bring down a lot of trees and branches that is the deers main food source all winter .the deer on are farms are hiding down in the gullys in the swamps were the cedars block the wind .I bumped 4 last night on the walk out .just a little to far for a shot .if you want to hunt In this weather find some deep gullys and work your way thru really slow with the wind in your face .you will find deer .Dutch

Lake effect is right. have gotton another 6 to 8 inches since I posted yesterday. Gonna have to go in with snow shoes or hope that we get a bit of rain and knock all this powder down.
