    Default Wolf ID

Got into New Liskeard last night. About a half hour south of town I saw the biggest wolf I've ever seen run out in front of the truck.

I've seen lots of wolves in and around Algonquin but nothing like this big guy.

Almost all white/light grey. Bit of black around the ears and back of head. Had to be pushing 70 lbs (my 100km/h estimate). Massive.

Would this have been an Eastern? Or just a well-fed brush/timber?

Sounds like a grey wolf (Canis lupus). The wolves in and around Algonquin are primarily eastern wolves (Canis lycaon).

It would easily weigh more than 70lbs more like 100 -120 lbs.

I don't doubt it. Compared to the coyotes I've seen in innisfil, this thing was easily twice as thick.

i was gonna say, if you think a 70 lb wolf is massive you are gonna crap your pants when you see a true timber haha i saw one a couple years ago while deer hunting, was pure white... beautiful animal, there was that part of me that wouldve loved to have him as a rug, but there was the other part of me that let him walk lol biggest one i saw was on the farm, was 2 crossing the hay field, one was normal size, one wouldve made the neighbours saint benard look small... unforntuately all i had was my shot gun with me, had i had my rifle handy he wouldve bit the dust pretty fast...

I think wolves look bigger than they actually are as well. They are big regardless, But a 120lb wolf is absolutely massive. Typical females are around 70lbs and a big alpha male would be around 100lbs...120 for an above average I would think....

40lb coyote still looks like an oversized cat after you skin em.....
