I went for a drive today and left the collar home with my wife, the Handheld tracked the collar for over 22km, then I got tired of driving. It only had one second were it lost connection around the 3km mark and then it picked it right up again.
I tested the training functions on the collar at that 22km range, they did not work. With the wife holding the collar at home, when I pressed vibrate it would not vibrate, this is at 22km...then 15km...then 8km etc
Around the 3km mark the training buttons would work, the collar vibrated. For those that are interested, the collar training buttons will not work at all tracking distances.
I am planning to buy the Backroads Mapbook Ontario mirco SD. If anyone has a much better recommendation, please let me know ASAP as I hope to order tomorrow.
Thanks for the update MS.

They are a great unit, this is the third year using this system. I like the training feature on them but in actuality prefer the buttons of the astro the touch screen is kind of a pain when driving, and watching the dogs. The tracking part works better as you can get more dogs on there, I think I have watched 10 dogs in one day. My advice is make sure you go into gps advance settings and make sure that you make it north is always up. I have seen the other guys get confused when unit is not set up like this. Good luck and I don't know how anybody runs hounds without these.

Turn on the unit and click on the SETUP button on the main page. In the set up menu scroll down until you see the ABOUT tab. Go into ABOUT and at the top it will say Software Version X.XX
The current version is 4.40
The disable tracking in Canada was added in version 3.20 which was issued in the spring of 2014 I believe.

Just an FYI time of purchase has nothing to do with revision of firmware. the latest release came out two weeks ago, that unit was manufactured, programmed, packaged, shelved, etc LONG before the latest realeases.
