Cold weather coat/parka recommendation...

I'm in the market for some new cold weather camo gear for late season bow hunting from a tree stand. The stuff I have (Field and Stream from Dick's sporting goods) is okay but not great. It's pretty bulky. I've been looking at the Cabela's stuff. I have their Dry-Fowl Plus line for waterfowling and I'm happy with it. They have several other lines that I've been looking at for deer hunting. I'm looking to see if anyone has any real world experience with the Cabela's stuff or other makes. I'm sure Sitka is great but it's not in my budget. Let me know the good and bad of what you've got or what you've tried.

I use a Sport Chief Ungava Parka and bibs, made in Canada too Expensive but worth the money.

Probably because no one would be able to afford it. Their non-camo stuff is outrageous (in my opinion) if they made it in camo it would be twice as expensive.

I have the Cabelas one piece goretex insulated suit, the Cabelas wool bibs, and also the Cabelas Goretex bibs/ jacket.

I do not use the one piece insulated suit much, it is OK for conditions around freezing when I don't know if it will snow or rain but it does leak around the seams after a few hours in the rain. Being a one piece if it gets windy you will loose some heat due to drafts, it is too heavy and too hot for walking in (I pack it in).

If it is above freezing I use wool shirts/ sweaters I got at the thrift shop for $10 each along with Cabelas wool bibs, and top if off with a Cabelas goretex un-insulated bibs and jacket combo to keep the rain out when required.

If it is below freezing I layer with wool shirts/ sweaters, Cabelas wool bibs, and use a down parka I got at the thrift shop for $20.

I would not recommend the Cabelas Dry plus products as the nylon liner will make you sweat and they are noisy to move in, my bibs originally had the dry plus lining and I cut it all out now the bibs a great.

I like buying Canadian like Skeeter1 suggested too, I just haven't found a place to buy Sport Chief apparel and I don't like buying clothes online. Due to my unusually tall and slim stature I find it difficult to get a good fit sometimes.

Yeah I've been looking at the MT050 as well. For sure I'd want to try on the Sport Chief stuff before buying it. That's a lot of money to dish out and have it not fit. I'm sure you can send it back but that's a pain. Even though I already have other Cabela's stuff I'd still like to try it on too. I have 3 different Cabela's coats. They are all XL and they all fit a little differently. 1 is perfect, 1 is a little small and the other is a little big..lol

Before you pour a lot of money in to your coat, make sure you have the right under garmets.

Go to the local fly shops or any place that sell what is called "Wader Wicks". It goes on as the first( Second if you count your tighty whiteys ) layer and is designed to wick sweat and water off your skin. Then use good thermels like under armor, but you can find good and very warm long underwear in the fly fishing shop/section. Remember the people that are wearing this stuff are spending a lot of time standing rivers with ice floating around them...
