For sure optics but I can also see the mnr being concerned about coyotes being taken by less than legal means since there are prizes involved.

    John,
I understand what you are trying to say but if that were the case then the MNR is being allowed to make the assumption that someone will break the law.
There is no bag limit on coyote so there is no valid reason to restricting the contest.

Sorry for an confusion we do not know the reasoning behind this.
That would seem strange...could you give out prizes for total pounds of coyotes killed - similar to a fishing tournament?

Only if they practice "catch and release" hunting.LOL
If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....

You are correct but a good example of assuming someone will break the law is the requirement to secure your gun or bow in a case after dark walking out of the bush.

Which is another law that I object to. Travelling with a loaded firearm in a vehicle is a reasonable law based on safety and the need to have a law in place to stop hunting from a vehicle. The encased firearm law is at odds with my natural survival instinct when I am in an area with bears or other large predators.
I agree with you observation, I am just not tickled with some of the laws as I believe many are not well stated and serve any real purpose.

So the new category is best or most difference in weight of previous coyote. The rule would then state that even a second coyote taken with a 15 lb difference from the first would beat a total of say five coyote taken with only a 2 lb difference between each. This rule then puts the hunter into a scenario to hunt largest vs total. With this wording you can address the MNR response and still have a separate category to hunt. It may actually be better since there is an additional element to the hunt
