Has too much time on their hands
I realize that a lot of old military arms (Enfields, Springfields) have gained acceptance in our hunting community, but I have to admit that that when it comes to modern military style guns, I would rather not see them in the field. I know where Jim Zumbo was coming from when he made is infamous comments.

The Firearms Support Services Branch of the RCMP has confirmed IT IS LEGAL. Just google "Firearms Support Services Branch" and LAR - you will find the actual ruling.

I think you should be able to use any gun you want when hunting aslong as it is legal. Ar style guns are super light very accurate and can carry a round that will take down big game. Just because it looks scary does not mean itshould not be used. However any gun shot in rapid fire in the woods is plain stupid. 25years of hunting. eight years in military and 35 years of shooting have taught me that. Not all ar style guns are semis some are bolt action such as the howa axiom.

Very nice firearm. I would love to own one but can't justify the $3000.
Perfectly legal to hunt with as it is NON-resricted. But there are better tools for hunting.
It is NOT an "assault rifle". Assault rifles are capable of select fire which are prohibited in Canada.
So, it is perfectly legal but some are worried what others will "think" because of the way it looks. That is where firearms owners have failed each other.
Your bolt action hunting rifle is also called by some, especially in the media, as a "high powered sniper rifle."

i also understand where jim zumbo was coming from but where does it end. IMO if a gun is legal to own and use in canada you have every right to own and use that gun. If we as hunters and target shooters say "well that gun should be banned or shouldn't be used" we are only contributing to our own demise. we have enough people against us as it is we don't need to fight amongst ourselves. Now that being said would i carry this firearm down the road or use it where the general public could see NO. because to the non hunting and non shooting public. this gun looks scary and looks like the guns used for killing people. when a 30-06 semi deer rifle is just as dangerous in the wrong hands. so as hunters and shooters i think we should all embrace all firearms. and work at informing the uneducated public about how its not the guns that are scary its the people.

I think what some people ar egetting at, is if you pulled that gun out to go hunting and regular people (god forbid a anti hunter) the news would have a field day and be touting all hunters as crazed lunatics.

all you guys that said this is no hunting gun. Why don't you all put your guns in the smelter now and use spears??? TIMES change, why is it that an old .303 is acceptable but a funny looking semi auto .223 inst?
"hunting" Rifles were not "designed" for hunting. They were designed to kill people that's it, the .303 brit enfields were not designed for hunting. They have many other uses and are nothing but a tool. To be used as the operator sees fit.
why did people start using bolt actions instead of muskets????
semis instead of bolts?
semi 12 gauges instead of single shots???
How many cartridges have been developed for war??? Should we stop using all of these too?
150 years from now the tavor might end up being used as a hunting gun and we will fight wars with laser blasters ... who knows.
point click bang! .... don't matter what is looks like.

150 years from now it may be acceptable when we no longer deem it as "scary looking", military firearms are also designed to strike fear in the enemy through their appearance as well. It is also our jobs as responsible firearms owners to police ourselves because some of us, like in every other walk in life will try to push things beyond a resonable border and those individuals (not saying it applies here) I will not support, hunter or not. Like I said earlier it would be fun at the range where we can shoot our little hearts out, but I still maintain no place in the field and it appears others share my viewpoint so I am not about to smelter my guns.

Well I feel that if a gun is legal in Canada then anyone can use it in a legal manner. Just because it is made to look menacing shouldn't matter. Saying that, I personally wouldn't use it simply because of it's appearance for a couple of reasons. One, I like to hunt away from people in a quiet location. You can almost guarantee a visit from a CO or the police if you were walking thru hunting with that. I stand corrected, a visit from a lot of CO's and Police at the same time! It also puts more fuel for the fire of the anti-hunters. Now I am not the most politically correct person around, but I think that hunters should consider the appearance of our sport in these days. We don't need more people arguing that hunting should be banned with certain weapons or in more areas. I think that the hunting/shooting community should stand together in regards to legal guns are OK to own and use. It is part of the anti-gun thinking to say that guns are designed to kill people. Guns are designed for a number of purposes and any gun can be used in any number of ways. Many miltary rifles make fine hunting weapons and many hunting weapons are incorrectly used in crimes. Everyone can have their personal opinion whether they would use a particular legal gun for hunting but I say don't get upset at someone who chooses to use it. You can let them know your opinion. We should be more concerned about a person's safe gun handling and ethical hunting.
