another petition by the uninformed - ban something for the sake of banning it!
even better, ban something you have no clue about and save you the hassle of understanding pros & cons in the first place.
hope all those left wing idiots ban themselves one day. but how could they, they need to think for us - because we evidently don't understand their thinking, so we must be the peasants .
perhaps they should all get more educated, and instead of banning things it would be more reasonable to ask first if some sort of training/qualification should be mandated.
politicians like to benchmark, so nobody can say they made a rational decision for which they could be blamed ever - that nonsense is going to spill over to us sooner or later…

I'm sure you'll all agree that there's a huge difference between "shock" collars and "locator" collars, right? Using the generic term "e-collar" as a blanket identifier for both is a mistake,IMO. It's like using the word "gun" to identify everything that goes "bang",only leading to confusion and mis-information by the general public who don't know any better.
If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....

I saw the earlier generations in action (i.e. complete misuse), I never intended to get one! Without going through the details of a long story, I ended up with a Dogtra. Since I got one (more or less unintentional) I thought I better figure out if there is something I could use that thing for...
Well, it cannot replace proper dog handling or a check cord, but certainly it is better than the other options you have when the dog is on game and out of range; e.g.
- Jumping up and down with your dog’s most favourite toy in one hand and a clicker in the other, sending a clear signal to your dog – you are an idiot.
- Try to sprint the 500m to the dog to give him a good smack. If the first fence line doesn’t stop you, the dog will come with waging tail towards you, because the huffing and puffing sound you make while running will make the dog think your torture some creature without him.
- Just suck it up and accept the fact that the dog has learnt a valuable lesson – your limitations.
As much those things are misused by some (and maybe too many), banning will not do anyone a favour, especially not the dogs. We know, left-wing idiots don’t need reasoning to ban something and despite that they can be very successful. I think we should be prepared to have something in our back pocket if that day comes like a mandatory test for dog handlers. That would be overregulation IMHO, but better that than losing e-collars completely.

A size 12 workboot can inflict far more harm than an e-collar. So can your fist actually. It's what you do with the tool that matters. The left have done a wonderful job of convincing everybody that most people don't know how to properly use an e-collar. I really have to question that as if you are going to spend the hundreds of dollars into a collar I think your goals aren't to torture a dog but show a conscious commitment to effective training. The anti everything crowd are very good at demonizing and have convinced the uninformed that the collar has no positive use. I'l repeat it again, my dog comes running and jumps for joy when the collar get's taken off the hook because it means fun time not abuse.

Terry, you did not mention the traditional training tool. Not many wore size 12 years ago and the 12 is actually a 12 Ga with #7 1/2 at 50 yards. There were many dogs "trained", excuse me corrected with this mechanical instrument prior to e-collars..
Yes , we will come to a day when we are faced with the nonsense of those who do not know, do not even own a dog, that will make legislation for those of us who do know.

Many years ago , I was shocked, astounded , absolutely flabbergasted when I heard a Lab. trainer tell me that is how a lot of dogs "are corrected " I could not believe my ears .
