This is an interesting debate and a good one . I can't say that I agree with the posters whose responses are in the vain of, "If its legal I'll use and the rest of the world can kiss off. Stand together or fall!" We've got to keep in mind that laws are only the minimum standard of behavior in a civil society, essentially intended to protect us from anarchy.

In my town there is no law that says I can't paint the outside of my house entirely black with giant white skulls and crossbones all over it. I may not be breaking the law, but am I being a good neighbour or a conscientious member of society? Am I really doing myself or anybody else any favours by excercising my rights in this way?

Here in the states alot of that military style autoloading stuff is legal to hunt with. With that said, it is very rare to see someone actually hunting with military "black rifles". There is always the occassional guy who carries an AR, AK, SKS, or something similar but bolt actions rule supreme and that's what most hunters use. The so called "assault weapons" are alot of fun and even I enjoy them on the range but in the woods they just seem impractical.

Call me old fashion. But I just like my old guns in the woods. They just seem to fit.

I really wish uneducated people would stop using the word "assault rifle" for everything that is painted black or scares them because of the way it looks. I guess I can't blame them though. The media has been feeding you this pablum for years; to be afraid of in an inanimate object.

Here's a great video that explains the differences very well.

While we are getting the definition of "assault rifle" (thanks Tony Mo) can we also get the definition of a "regular person". I always thought hunters were regular people and everyone else was irregular.
