Emma Paulsen, the B.C. dog walker who pleaded guilty to animal cruelty in the deaths of six dogs in her care, has been sentenced to six months in jail.
She can also not own an animal for 10 years, and has a lifetime ban on caring for one in a paid capacity.

How did those dogs actually die? The story only mentions she didn't intend to, but then tried to cover it up.

Cannot find anywhere for how long she had them in there: kind of dumb vs. ridiculously stupid. Emotions aside, it sounds like an accident and I'm surprised that she's going to jail. Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with her doing time and better don't ask me what if it were my dog, but I find the sentence surprising as there is no mentioning of any animal cruelty history (6 dogs die all at the same time).

“[The dog walker] has disclosed that on May 13th, all six dogs were in the back of her vehicle with the side vent windows open and water available, as she had done hundreds of times. Sometime during the outing, all six dogs perished from heatstroke. Upon arriving at the location and seeing her beloved charges deceased, she went into a blind panic at the thought of notifying the families and the possible repercussions.” The dog walker’s own dog was among the six deceased animals.

It goes beyond ridiculously stupid - particularly where she is accepting responsibility for other persons dogs.
Having a 'history of animal cruelty' is about as irrelevant here as having a 'history of murder' would be in a murder case. First time counts.

If she had 'fessed up right away to what had happened, she probably would have avoided jail time altogether.

I hope she shares a cell with a female version of "Bubba".
