To leash or not to leash!!!
Some think their dogs shouldn't have to be leashed. The law states you're not to let your dogs run at large. A dog doesn't know boundries of private land.
What about the game (deer) the dogs kill when running at large. Or the dog that accidently gets trapped because the owner refuses to leash his mutt!!
I'm not talking about licensed hunting dogs!!
What's your thoughts???

Can of worms, that.
I think a dog has absolutely zero rights on my private property. Zero. If the owner is willing to take that risk, fine. But they should under no circumstances whine or protest if their dog is hit by a car, shot for running deer, or if there is a feud with the neighbours. For the record, I like dogs. But I have had a couple set-tos with irresponsibe owners who thought it was unreasonable of me not to allow their dog to use my yard as a toilet.
Like I said, a can of worms.

Your property , ( private), then my dog ( me), is at fault , but on public property ( we all own it), my dog and I have as much right ( you cant kill my dog because it is not on a leash), as you do.

I just had a discussion with my sister on this, she was starting a petition to fight the enforcement of the leash law at a park where she has been taking her dog to run...it's not a designated 'dog' park, but used like one. She was outraged that she got a $90 fine for walking right past the sign saying she had to leash her dog....now she wants to change the rules...LOL...
I don't know if leash laws exist on Crown Land....maybe it's posted in different townships.
I live in a rural setting, so allot of the way things are done out here differ from what you folks that live in the burbs are used to. Very few dogs are leashed or even tethered. I only tie up my hound as he will run off occasional if free, but the other breeds I own enjoy their freedom to use the farm as they want. They spend most of their day just laying around out in the yard, they don't wander far and stay close by, as do most farm dogs.
Most of my neighbors also have free ranging dogs that run up to meet the truck as you pull in the lane. No one thinks anything of it, its the way of life here.
So if you move out to the country or using land out here, you'll need to adjust your paradigms...
I live in the heart of deer country and rarely hear of dogs running deer except during deer season. No one who owns a good deer dog would let it run free the other 50 weeks a year. The MNR has stiff fines if your dog is caught harassing wildlife and it's an accepted and understood rule that crotchety property owners have the legal right to shot your dog if it's running free on his land.
So if you take the risk, you take responsibility.
(sounds a lot like that other thread...break the rules, pay the consequence and stop whining...LOl..)

Actually, the law states dogs must be under control at all times while on crown land. Kinda fuzzy about licensed hunting dogs though!!

Which law would that be? Any dog-under-control laws I am aware of are municipal bylaws. There are provincial laws related to dogs chasing game OOS and dogs/livestock, but I am not aware of any province-wide law regarding crown land.
